I. Background and Need for Food Traceability Systems
With the globalization of food production and processing, and the complexity of supply chains, food safety issues have become increasingly severe. Every link in the food supply chain—ranging from raw material procurement, production, transportation, storage, and sales, to consumption—could be a potential risk point for food safety. In 2011, the Food Safety Law of China was enacted, mandating traceability throughout the entire food production and consumption process to ensure public health.
